Air Fryer English Muffin Pizzas

You are going to love making little english muffin pizzas in the air fryer! It’s a quick and easy way to cook up something yummy in just a matter of minutes and your kids will love them! In fact, the kids will love whipping these together with you.

It’s a fantastic simple recipe! By using english muffins all the work is basically done. So there is no messy sticky dough to work with or even an oven to turn on! I typically use mozzarella like most pizza and marinara, but you can use any type of cheese and tomato sauce you like. I sometimes even use leftover alfredo sauce or homemade tomato sauce.

To make these, all you have to do is spread some sauce and sprinkle some cheese on an english muffin. Then literally 4 minutes later you have ready to eat english muffin mini pizza. Easy peasy pizza perfection!

How To Make English Muffin Pizzas In The Air Fryer

You only need three ingredients to make these simple air fryer english muffin pizzas! Obviously, one is the muffins. I like to use Thomas’ but any brand will work perfectly and the directions are exactly the same. Here is what you need:

  • English Muffins – These act as the perfect mini pizza base with a soft center and crispy edges.
  • Shredded Cheese – Melts beautifully and gives that signature cheesy goodness.
  • Tomato Sauce – Adds that classic pizza flavor. You can use marinara, homemade sauce, or even alfredo for a twist.

Kitchen Tools You Need To Make Air Fryer English Muffin Pizzas

  • Air Fryer: Essential for creating that crispy crust and gooey melted cheese in minutes.
  • Measuring Spoons: Helps portion out the sauce evenly on each muffin half.
  • Spoon or Spatula: Perfect for spreading the sauce onto the English muffins.

Start by heating up your air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit if needed. You’ll need to check the manual of your air fryer to see if this step is necessary. It depends on the model you are using. So if you don’t need to preheat then you can just move on to the next step.

Next, split an english muffin in half and place it on a plate. Then spread both halves with tomato sauce and sprinkle them with cheese. You can add your other favorite toppings at this point if you like.

Now, place the 2 halves flat in the air fryer basket.

Then put the basket into the air fry to cook for 4 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the air fryer is done cooking remove the english muffin pizzas and enjoy!

Cooking Tips

  • You must cook at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for the best crispy crust and perfectly melted cheese.
  • Let the air fryer english muffin pizzas cool for a minute before serving kids. Hot cheese can burn.
  • Don’t crowd the air fryer. It’s better to cook larger amounts in batches.

What to Serve with Air Fryer English Muffin Pizzas

English muffin air fryer pizzas are a snack or meal all on their own. But sometimes you may want to add a side for a more complete meal. Like any pizza these pair well with a salad or nice soup. Here are some of my favorites.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Cheese Options: While mozzarella is the classic choice, you can use cheddar, provolone, or a blend of your favorites for a unique twist. Vegan cheese works well too if you want to make these dairy-free.
  • Sauce Swaps: Experiment with alfredo, pesto, BBQ sauce, or even salsa instead of traditional tomato sauce. Each option brings a new flavor profile to your pizzas.
  • Bread Base Alternatives: If you’re out of English muffins, use bagels, pita bread, or even sliced sandwich bread. Adjust the cooking time slightly as needed.
  • Topping Ideas: Go beyond the basics with pepperoni, mushrooms, spinach, pineapple, jalapeños, or cooked sausage. Mix and match to create your favorite combinations!
  • Dietary Adjustments: Make these gluten-free by using gluten-free English muffins. For a low-carb option, substitute with halved zucchini rounds or portobello mushroom caps.

Storage and Reheating

  • Storage: Place leftover English Muffin Pizzas in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days.
  • Freezing: For longer storage, wrap each pizza individually in plastic wrap or foil and place them in a freezer-safe bag. They can be frozen for up to 1 month.
  • Reheating in the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 350°F. Place the leftover pizzas in the basket and heat for 2–3 minutes until warmed through.
  • Reheating in the Microwave: Heat on a microwave-safe plate for about 30 seconds to 1 minute. Keep in mind the crust won’t be as crispy as when reheated in the air fryer.
  • Reheating in the Oven: Set your oven to 375°F and bake the pizzas on a baking sheet for 5–7 minutes. This method keeps the crust crisp and the cheese melty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make these English Muffin Pizzas without an air fryer?

Yes, you can bake them in the oven! Preheat your oven to 400°F, place the prepared muffins on a baking sheet, and bake for 6–8 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

What other cheeses can I use?

You can use cheddar, provolone, parmesan, or even a vegan cheese alternative. Each brings its own unique flavor to the pizzas.

Can I prepare these in advance?

Yes! Assemble the pizzas and store them in the refrigerator for up to 1 day. When you’re ready to eat, just pop them into the air fryer and cook as directed.

Can I make a gluten-free version?

Absolutely! Simply use gluten-free English muffins as the base. The cooking process and times remain the same.

Make sure to use a thin layer of sauce and avoid adding too many toppings. The air fryer’s heat will do the rest to keep the crust crispy.
