Health Benefits of Onions
Onions are a staple in many kitchens around the world! They form the basis for a wide range of meals.
Onions were even used in ancient times to treat certain bodily dysfunction, such as headache, heart disease, and even mouth sores!
But if you are looking for another reason to add onions to your diet, check out these amazing nutrition benefits!
Onions are very low in calories and have no fat or cholesterol. But they contain a solid amount of vitamins, minerals, and not to mention, fiber!
Onions are especially high in Vitamin C, which is important for your immune system and helps your body absorb iron.
In addition, onions contain Vitamin B9 and B6, which are good for your metabolism, production of red blood cells, and nerve function. The vegetable is also good for you because of the potassium it contains, which is a mineral many Americans need more of.
Furthermore, onions contain a lot of antioxidants! These antioxidants are important for helping to prevent inflammation which can lead to many diseases, including cancer, diabetes, or heart disease.
How to Prepare Air Fryer Fried Onions
To make these fried onions in the air fryer, you will only need a couple of ingredients!
Most importantly, 2 large onions. I recommend the yellow variety as they are sweeter than the white.
You will also need olive oil, salt, and pepper.
The first step in preparation is to peel and chop the onions into slices, as shown in the photos.
Next you will place them in a large mixing bowl. Drizzle on about 1 tablespoon of olive oil or as much as desired. This will help the onions to brown. Then you will sprinkle on the salt and pepper as desired.
Next, add the onions to the air fryer basket in a single layer as much as possible.
Then set the temperature to 400F and the time to 10 minutes.
Halfway through cooking, take out the basket and stir up the onions to promote even browning. You can use a spoon or spatula to do this.
Then return the basket to the air fryer and let it finish cooking.
If after 10 minutes your onions are not quite brown enough for your liking, you can put them back in the air fryer for an additional 3-5 minutes.
When you are satisfied with your onions, remove to a serving plate. Enjoy!
