Can I Scratch Make & Freeze Them for Later?
Of course you can – I have a recipe for egg rolls from scratch! The whole purpose of using frozen egg rolls is the fact that they’re super convenient and easy to whip up for those times when you’re planning to serve a nice meal, but don’t want to put in too much effort.
But if you’re in the mood to make them from scratch, you could totally do that too using my homemade egg rolls recipe! Just remember that fresh egg rolls take half the time to cook in the air fryer as compared to frozen egg rolls.
Tips & Tricks For Best Results
Just like with most air fried foods, there’s actually quite a bit you can do to make sure that they turn out perfectly crispy on the outside, and soft and juicy on the inside. So what should you do to make sure your air fryer frozen egg rolls turn out great? Here’s what.
- Brush them with a little oil instead of using a cooking spray. This will make them even more crispy and crunchy.
- When you place the egg rolls in the air fryer basket, make sure they’re not touching each other and have some space between them. Though they won’t exactly expand on air frying, having that extra space will ensure that all the heat is spread evenly, and the egg rolls are cooked to perfection.
- When placing them in the basket, place them seam side down. The reason why you should do this is that if you place the seam side up, the other side will cook and get crispy quicker, and it might end up causing the seam to open up.
- You’ll be cooking the egg rolls in the air fryer for 10 minutes, but make sure you turn them on the other side at the 5 minute mark. This will, again, ensure that the rolls are crispy and well cooked on both sides.
Serving Ideas & Suggestions
The beauty of these air fryer frozen egg rolls is that they’re incredibly versatile- you can team them up with a variety of different foods. Here are a few ideas to get you started.
- Serve them with a bowl of lo mein and some hot sauce on the side.
- Serve them as is as a nice snack with a few different dipping sauces on the side (check out my recipes for sweet and spicy dipping sauce, buffalo sauce and yogurt sauce).
- Egg rolls also taste great when served with a bowl of hot soup. In my opinion, egg drop soup tastes great along with these air fryer egg rolls.
- Making some fried rice? These egg rolls can be a nice side to go along with it. I’ve got some excellent fried rice recipes including chicken fried rice, shrimp fried rice, broccoli fried rice and vegetarian fried rice for you to try out!
