How To Make Air Fryer Green Tomatoes

Prep the air fryer basket with nonstick spray or brush it with oil. This prevents the tomatoes and breading from sticking to the basket.

Crack an egg into a shallow bowl and whisk it up.

Pour a 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs onto a plate. Sprinkle in garlic powder and paprika (adds a nice color to the breading), then stir with a fork to spread seasonings throughout the breadcrumbs.

Cut the tomatoes into slices and remove the stems. Place both sides of each tomato slice into the egg and then the breadcrumbs, and finally add it to the air fryer basket.

Cook at 400 degrees for 15 minutes. Once the tomatoes are done cooking, use a spatula to move them to a serving plate. Top with salt and pepper to taste.

Cooking Tips

  • Add seasonings of your choice to the breadcrumbs or you can omit them if the breadcrumbs are already seasoned
  • Press tomato slices into the breadcrumbs to ensure that the coating stays on the tomatoes during the cooking process
  • Flipping the tomato slices during cooking is optional. They do still brown on both sides and jostling them could remove the breading
  • We add salt and pepper when the tomatoes are done cooking as it’s hard to judge the right amount before they go in the air fryer
