How To Make Boiled Sweet Potatoes

Place a large pot of water on the stovetop. Add potatoes and turn the heat to high.

Once the water is boiling, turn the heat down to simmer. The water should stay boiling, but not a hard boil.

Cover the pot if you would like, and let the potatoes boil for about 30 minutes. Cooking time can depend on the size of the potatoes. Once time is up, pierce a couple of potatoes to check for tenderness.

If the potatoes are done to your liking, turn off the heat and drain the water.

Slice the potatoes in half, lengthwise, and top with seasonings or serve as is!

Cooking Tips

  • No need to peel the potatoes as the peel is edible
  • Sweet potatoes can be cooked whole or in pieces. Boiling whole potatoes does take longer to cook. However, it can be difficult to slice uncooked potatoes
  • While the potatoes are boiling, you can cover the pot to make them cook faster, just be sure to place it on loosely so some steam can escape
  • You can also check doneness by using an internal cooking thermometer. The potatoes should be at least 210 degrees in the center if they are fully cooked
