Dengeos Restaurant Review (Skokie and Buffalo Grove, IL, Chicago Suburbs)

Dengeos Restaurant is my favorite place to get gyros in Chicago area. Dengeos has 2 locations: in Skokie and Buffalo Grove, both are the Chicago Suburbs. I have been to both Dengeos locations, and the food has been equally excellent in both! I couldn’t tell any difference between those two locations, other than the address.
Dengeos ordering works like a fast food restaurant – you go to the menu board, order your food and pay at the cash register. They give you the receipt with your number. You then grab a table, sit down and wait for your number to be called over the loudspeaker. When your number is called, you go to the front, grab the tray with your food and bring it to your table.
On this picture, you can see the board with the menu where people order, and part of the seating area.
The interior at Dengeos doesn’t feel like a typical fast food place. It has the ambiance of a lively sit down restaurant. Here’s a picture of Dengeos seating area:
The prices in Dengeos are pretty low – for example, a gyros sandwich is $5.25, gyros plate is $8.50, cheeseburger is $4.20, 1/2 BBQ chicken is $8.65. Also, you don’t need to leave a tip! The food in Dengeos tastes better than comparable food in most sitdown expensive restaurants. So you get the best of both worlds – fast food prices and a nice eating experience.
My favorite food in Dengeos is the gyros plate – you get a huge portion of gyros, yogurt sauce, sliced tomatoes and onions, side dish (a choice of fries, Greek potatoes, rice or baked potato) and warm pita bread. Here’s the picture of the tray with the whole gyros plate feast (wrapped in foil is the baked potato):
And here’s just the plate with the gyros itself:
Everything I ever tried in Dengeos has been great. In addition to gyros plate, I have tried gyros sandwich, Greek salad, cheeseburger, Grecian chicken and BBQ chicken. The BBQ chicken in Dengeos has such deep grilled flavor, it’s the best BBQ chicken I’ve ever had!
The address in Dengeos in Skokie is 3301 W. Main St. Skokie, IL, the phone is (847) 677-7911. The Buffalo Grove location is 195 W. Dundee Rd., Buffalo Grove, IL, the phone is (847) 520-0004.
I love gyros, and haven’t had them for a while now. Actually, this is only a 3 hour drive for me, and I go to Chicago now and then on business. I’ll have to check them out!
I haven’t been to Chicago in years. That was before O’Hare was a thriving airport.
If the food is ready quickly, that is a great restaurant to go to. It seems you get what you want when you want it and make it disappear rather quickly.
Sounds good to me!
looks great Chicago has great places to eat
I’ll have to check out this restaurant the next time I have a deposition out in the suburbs!
Oh, this reminds me of a fast food chain called Ali Babas here in Australia which, when I was kid, was less fast-food and more restaurant-y, like this. It did the same kind of marinate shaved meat (gyros) with accompaniments! I miss it! I think we called it shawerma, not gyros, though :)
I’ve always wanted to try gyros. These look delicious!
Great review; wish I could go.
