This dish is also sometimes called “inside out egg roll”, because it’s basically like an egg roll without the wrapper! Not only is it much quicker to make than regular egg rolls (as you don’t have to spend time wrapping the filling in a wrapper, sealing the wrapper and frying the egg roll), but it’s also so much healthier! If you are on a gluten-free or low-carb diet, egg roll in a bowl is a perfect meal for you and it doesn’t contain gluten and has virtually no carbs!  This is a perfect keto meal!

The ingredients for egg roll in a bowl are the same as the filling for regular egg rolls – ground meat, coleslaw mix (shredded cabbage and carrots), soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic and ginger.  Everything is cooked on a frying pan and ready in less than 15 minutes from start to finish! This is one of the quickest and easiest dinners you’ll ever make!

To keep it super easy and convenient, I use packaged coleslaw mix, so you don’t have to chop anything :) All you have to do is open the bag and dump the contents into a frying pan! Of course, you can make it totally from scratch by shredding fresh cabbage and carrots in a food processor.

Classic egg rolls are made with ground pork or ground chicken.  I’ve also made this recipe with ground turkey, it tasted really yummy too!  Egg roll in a bowl reheats very well, you can make it in advance and reheat it to enjoy later.  This is a great recipe for meal prep, you can divide it in meal prep containers for healthy lunches and dinners throughout the week!  You can even freeze it for later!

  1. I have been using your recipe but instead of pork, I break up a pound of very firm tofu and use that as the base. You wouldn’t believe how good this comes out. Sometimes I throw in sliced water chestnuts for added crunch. It makes a great vegan meal and comes together in about 20 minutes.

  2. 5 stars
This is quick, easy and flavorful! I use liquid amino acids instead of soy sauce. My friends enjoyed the recipe too. Thank you, Julie
