How To Make Southern Fried Cabbage And Bacon
Chop up 8 oz of bacon slices and place in a nonstick skillet. Turn heat to high.
While you wait for the heat to turn up, slice the half head of cabbage. Cut it into bite-sized pieces.
Once bacon starts sizzling, turn the heat down to medium high. Use a spatula to mix the bacon up and cook it more evenly.
Cook the bacon, stirring every minute, for about 7 minutes or until it is crisp to your liking. Remove the bacon from the skillet, leaving behind the bacon grease.
Add cabbage pieces to skillet. Mix it in with the bacon grease and check that the heat is at medium high. Cook for about 10 minutes, stirring every minute, or until cabbage is tender to your liking.
Now it’s time to add the seasonings. Sprinkle in salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Mix everything together.
Add bacon back in. Mix to combine everything into one dish. Turn off the heat and remove the fried cabbage and bacon from the skillet.

- If you want to cook a whole head of cabbage (double the recipe), use 2 frying pans to cook it
- Cook the bacon crisp to your liking. If bacon starts to burn before it’s done cooking, turn down the heat to medium or medium low
