Crispy Grilled Cheese In The Oven

You’ll love how easy this recipe is! It’s the best way to make a bunch of grilled cheese sandwiches at once. And they come out perfectly cooked. We used cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, but you can use any type of cheese you prefer.

The key is to use softened butter on the bread. This helps the butter to spread easier and coat the entire side of the bread slice. You layer the sandwich with slices of cheese that melt well– in this case, cheddar and mozzarella. And then let the oven do all the work!

How To Cook Grilled Cheese In The Oven

Preheat your oven to 450 degrees. Add parchment paper to a baking sheet.

Lay out six slices of bread on the parchment paper. Spread softened butter on top, then flip slices of bread upside down. (Buttered sides should be on outside of sandwich)

Next add two slices of cheese to each. We used cheddar and mozzarella– known for melting perfectly! But feel free to use any type of cheese you love on grilled cheese.

Top each with another bread slice and coat the outside of that slice with the softened butter. Make sure the sandwich layers are lined up and then place in the oven.

Bake for 8 minutes, but keep an eye on them towards the end of the cooking time, as oven can vary. No need to flip the sandwiches during cooking time, the oven toasts both sides up.

Remove cookie sheet from oven and allow sandwiches to cool for a few minutes before serving.

Cooking Tips

  • An easy way to soften butter is to leave it out on the countertop until it reaches room temperature. Softened butter is much easier to spread on bread slices.
  • You can use softened butter for this recipe, or brush on melted butter or oil
  • For perfectly equal toasting on both sides, you may prefer to flip the grilled cheeses halfway through cooking time
  • If you wish to make even more grilled cheese sandwiches, simply double-up the ingredients and fill a second baking sheet
