If you ever come across a recipe that calls for butternut squash chunks and found yourself not knowing how to get whole butternut squash into a chunk form, this article is exactly what you need. It will teach you how to cut butternut squash quickly and easily, as it contains a close-up picture of each step!
Peeling and cutting butternut squash takes me about 10 minutes altogether. If it’s your first time doing it, count on about 20 minutes. Either way, it’s much quicker than trying to hunt down pre-cut butternut squash at the store (which may or may not even have it).
Not only is store-bought pre-cut butternut squash overpriced, but also chances are it’s been sitting on the shelf for a while. Save your money and learn how to cut butternut squash yourself with this easy step-by-step guide.
How To Peel and Cut Butternut Squash: Step By Step Pictures
Step 1: Peel butternut squash
Use a vegetable peeler to remove peel from butternut squash. There is no special “butternut squash peeler”, just use a regular vegetable peeler that you normally use for peeling apples and cucumbers :)
Step 2: Cut off the ends of butternut squash
Lay the butternut squash on a cutting board or counter and use a sharp knife to cut off both ends.
Step 3: Cut butternut squash in half lengthwise
Carefully cut butternut squash in half lengthwise.
Step 4: Remove the seeds from butternut squash
Use a spoon to scoop out the seeds from each half of butternut squash.
Step 5: Cut each half of butternut squash into 2 pieces
Now you will have 4 pieces of butternut squash.
Step 6: Cut each piece of butternut squash into slices
Slice butternut squash into 1-inch slices lengthwise.
The part of butternut squash that has a hole (where the seeds used to be) will have curved slices :)
Step 7: Cut each slice of butternut squash into chunks
Now you will have 1-inch chunks of butternut squash that you can use in your recipes. Enjoy!
