Most kids love chicken nuggets, so if you want your kids to eat their school lunches, packing chicken nuggets for school lunch will definitely help!
However, if you pack the chicken nuggets in a lunch box the wrong way, they will be cold and soggy by lunchtime – and that’s not a very appealing meal even to those who love chicken nuggets. While packing chicken nuggets for school lunch, we need to address to things: how to keep chicken nuggets warm and how to keep them from getting soggy.
The first thing we need to do is to prepare chicken nuggets in a way that they stay dry. It’s very easy – just put them on a paper towel before you microwave them. The paper towel will absorb all excess moisture, so it will keep chicken nuggets from getting soggy.
The second thing is that we want chicken nuggets to stay warm. To accomplish this, we need a thermos. On the picture above is a kid thermos that’s supposed to keep hot foods hot. The foods don’t stay piping hot even in this thermos, but they will stay warm. Warm chicken nuggets are much better than cold ones, so use a thermos.
Before you put those chicken nuggets in a thermos, microwave them until they are piping hot (don’t forget to use the paper towel so they don’t get soggy). After that, immediately put the chicken nuggets in a thermos (discard the paper towel), and close the thermos.
If you feel guilty packing chicken nuggets for kids lunches because you think chicken nuggets are unhealthy, pick healthier chicken nuggets brand in a grocery store. Just look at the labels – some chicken nuggets are much healthier than the others! Healthy chicken nuggets are made from the chicken breast meat, and should have less fat than the dark meat chicken nuggets. I always buy the Costco chicken nuggets (“Yummy” brand, 100% All Natural Chicken Breast Nuggets).

I am wondering how long the chicken nuggets are safe to eat before the concern of food poisoning. Any idea?
I always fill the thermos with boiling water for a few minutes, pour it out, dry it and add the hot food.
