Instant Pot Brown Rice

Before I got an Instant Pot, I always made brown rice in a rice cooker.  Now my rice cooker has been gathering dust because the Instant Pot can do exactly what rice cooker does – cook perfect rice unattended while you relax!

Perfect Brown Rice In The Instant Pot

Cooking brown rice on the stove takes 50 minutes, but it only takes 30 minutes in the Instant Pot! But the biggest advantage of the Instant Pot over the stovetop method is the fact that you don’t have to “babysit” the pot.

If you are cooking brown rice on the stove, you have to constantly watch it – first see when it starts boiling, then have to reduce heat, make sure the rice doesn’t burn, etc.  Stovetop brown rice is plain tricky and inconsistent – it’s like a slot machine, sometimes it turns out well and sometimes it doesn’t, despite your best efforts.  Unlike stovetop, Instant Pot brown rice is consistent, predictable and effortless.

  1. My rice turned out absolutely perfect! I used vege stock instead of water. Thanks for posting this recipe!

  2. Since I always rinse my rice before cooking, my method was to rinse the 2 cups of rice in 3 cups of water, drain the water into my measuring cup, and see how much water the rice absorbed. After 3 rinsings, the rice kept 1/4 cup of the water. So, I put in 2 more cups of water to make the total 2 1/4 cups.

Then, I decided to try the pot-in-pot method, using a vented lid on an inner pot which was placed on a trivet. I added 1 1/2 cups of water to the liner pot, set the trivet inside, and placed an inner pot with my rice and water, set a slotted lid on it, put the big lid on, and followed your cooking directions. What else can I say? My brown rice came out perfectly cooked! Thank you!

To Melanie, thank you for all your amazing “recipes” that you are sharing. I knew nothing about and on how to use my Instant Pot, until I came to your website. Again “thank You”, I really appreciate you and how you go to that extra level to explain how it is done and what the amazing results are. Thank you again, for your time and how to prepare. Linda
