Since the sausage comes pre-seasoned, you do not need to add the usual salt and pepper. This recipe recommends garlic powder and Italian seasoning as they go well with the seasonings already in the sausage. Or you can add any seasonings you prefer, such as dried or fresh basil, thyme, or paprika.

Cooking Tips

  • This recipe calls for garlic powder and Italian seasoning, but you can use any seasoning you like on sausage and peppers. You probably do not need salt, as the sausage comes pre-seasoned, but you can always check at the end of cooking time and add salt to taste
  • Placing the tomato sauce at the top of the instant pot prevents the “burn” notification that some instant pots show if the sauce cooks at the bottom of the pot

  • If the sauce seems too liquidy after cooking, remove the sausage and peppers from the sauce and serving alongside, so people can use as much sauce as they would like. This tomato-based sauce is also delicious over mashed potatoes or rice.
