matzo cracker spread with jam on a plate

I was looking for a tasty snack the other day.  I just wanted something different :)  Than I saw an opened box of matzo crackers on my pantry closet shelf – it’s been there for ages.  I’m not a big fan of plain matzo, so it’s not my usual snack… But then I thought of something – what if I spread jam on the matzo?

Why You’ll Love Matzo Crackers Spread With Jam

  • Quick and Easy: This snack comes together in minutes with no cooking required. It’s perfect for busy days when you need something fast but tasty.
  • Crunchy and Sweet: The contrast between the crispy matzo and the smooth, sweet jam creates a satisfying combination of textures and flavors.
  • Kid-Friendly: Both kids and adults will love this simple snack. It’s easy to make, and little ones can help spread the jam, making it a fun family activity.
  • Versatile: You can switch up the flavors by using different types of jam or fruit spreads. From strawberry to fig, the possibilities are endless.
  • Great for Any Time: Whether you’re snacking between meals, need something to pack in a lunchbox, or want to serve an easy appetizer, this recipe fits any occasion.

So I took a huge piece of the matzo and spread it with the strawberry jam.  Crunch! Yum!

Matzo with jam turned out to be a great combo!  The matzo itself is really bland, but it has a great crunch.  The jam gave the matzo the sweetness and flavor – combined with the texture of matzo it surely is a winner!

Ingredients For Matzo Crackers Spread With Jam

  • Matzo crackers – The perfect crunchy base for this snack, matzo is mild in flavor and pairs well with sweet toppings.
  • Jam of your choice – Use any flavor of jam you love! Strawberry, raspberry, or even a homemade jam works beautifully for this recipe.

Kitchen Tools You Need To Make Matzo Crackers Spread With Jam

  • Spoon – For spreading the jam smoothly across the crackers.
  • Plate – To serve your jam-topped matzo crackers.

How To Make Matzo Crackers Spread With Jam

  • Place a matzo cracker on a plate, ready to spread.
  • Scoop a spoonful of your favorite jam.
  • Gently spread the jam across the surface of the matzo cracker, making sure to cover it evenly.
  • Repeat with additional crackers if you’re making more.
  • Enjoy the delicious combination of crunchy matzo and sweet jam immediately!

Serving Suggestions

  • Pair the Matzo Crackers Spread With Jam with a cup of tea with lemon or coffee for a delightful afternoon snack.
  • Serve them on a platter as part of a light appetizer spread for a gathering.
  • Add fresh fruit like sliced strawberries or blueberries on top of the jam for extra flavor and color.
  • Try using them as a simple, sweet ending to a meal instead of a heavy dessert.
  • These are also great for packing in a lunchbox for a quick, easy snack on the go.

Tips For Success

  • Choose Your Jam Wisely: Since the matzo itself is quite plain, the jam you choose will bring most of the flavor. Opt for a jam that you really enjoy, whether it’s a classic like strawberry or something more adventurous like apricot or fig.
  • Spread Evenly: When spreading the jam, try to cover the entire surface of the matzo to ensure each bite is balanced with sweetness and crunch.
  • Serve Fresh: Matzo crackers can become soft if left out with the jam on top for too long. For the best texture, prepare and serve these crackers immediately.
  • Portion Control: If you’re making these for a group or a party, break the matzo into smaller pieces before spreading the jam. This makes it easier for guests to grab a small bite and prevents them from going soggy if not eaten right away.
  • Pair With Other Toppings: For added flavor and texture, consider adding toppings like nuts, seeds, or a sprinkle of cinnamon on top of the jam. This will elevate the snack and make it more visually appealing.

Variations And Substitutions

  • Different Types of Crackers: While matzo crackers are traditional, you can substitute them with other types of crackers if you prefer. Whole wheat, gluten-free, or even rice crackers can work well and offer different flavors or textures.
  • Alternative Spreads: If jam isn’t your favorite, try spreading honey or nut butter like almond or peanut butter on the matzo. You can even mix things up by layering both jam and nut butter for a PB&J-style snack.
  • Savory Twist: If you’re in the mood for something savory, swap the jam for cream cheese or avocado. You can also top the crackers with smoked salmon, cucumbers, or a sprinkle of herbs for a delicious savory option.
  • Fruit Toppings: Fresh fruit makes a great addition to this snack. Sliced bananas, strawberries, or blueberries can be added on top of the jam to enhance the flavor and add more texture.
  • Low-Sugar Options: For a healthier version, use a low-sugar or sugar-free jam. You can also make your own fruit spread by blending fresh fruits with a bit of honey or a sugar substitute.

Storage and Reheating

  • Storage: It’s best to enjoy Matzo Crackers Spread With Jam immediately for the best texture. If you have leftover crackers, store the matzo separately from the jam. Keep the matzo crackers in an airtight container at room temperature to maintain their crunch, and store the jam in the refrigerator.
  • Reheating: Since this is a no-cook recipe, there’s no need for reheating. However, if your matzo crackers have gone soft, you can place them in the oven at a low temperature (around 250°F) for a few minutes to help them crisp up again.
  • Make-Ahead Tips: You can prepare the jam ahead of time or use pre-made jam, but avoid spreading the jam on the crackers until just before serving to prevent them from becoming soggy.

  1. That’s funny….I’m eating a piece of toast with peanut butter and jelly. For the last week, I’ve not been able to get enough of it. One slice as my “dessert” each evening…..so I completely understand!
