Cooking Pears In The Microwave
It’s so easy to cook delicious, fork tender pears in a microwave-safe dish. We added honey and cinnamon, but that’s totally optional. Just slice pears (peel if you prefer), add to dish, and heat for about 4 minutes. It’s that easy!
These pears go with so many other dishes. You can serve them as a warm topping on breakfast items, such as waffles or pancakes. They make a subtly sweet side dish to serve with grilled or air fried meats. Or you can use in sundae’s or yogurt parfaits. Yum!

How To Make Microwave Pears
Wash the pears and slice off pieces away from the core. Chop them further into even slices.
Add pear slices to microwave-safe dish. Sprinkle on cinnamon and drizzle on honey. Stir to coat pear slices in seasonings.
Place (microwave-safe) cover on top. Heat for 4 minutes in microwave.
Remove dish and place on heat-safe surface. Remove cover. Pears are ready to be enjoyed!
Cooking Tips
- You can peel the pears, if you prefer. But the peel is edible and softens in the microwave.
- Seasonings are totally optional. Some additional ideas: nutmeg, maple syrup, cinnamon sugar, cocoa powder, etc
- Be careful removing the dish from the microwave; it will be very hot
Can You Cook Pears When They Are Hard?
Yes. Cooking hard pears will soften them, but they may still be bland. To counter this, add sweeteners and seasonings like honey and butter to boost the flavor of the pears.
Does Microwaving Pears Make Them Sweeter?
Yes! Heat increases the sugar content of fruit, which means that microwaved pears are slightly sweeter than fresh ones. This makes them the perfect healthy addition to desserts and snacks. You can increase the sweetness even more by sprinkling the pears with cinnamon and sugar before microwaving. Seasonings enhance the natural sweetness of the fruit.
Will Pears Soften When Cooked?
Yes. With any method of cooking, pears will soften. This includes the peel, which makes it easier to eat.
