Peel the sweet potatoes, cut into chunks and boil for 10-15 minutes or until soft. Drain and mash.  Flavor with butter, maple syrup and cinnamon to taste.

How To Make Sweet Potato Casserole Topped With Marshmallows

You can make this marshmallow sweet potato casserole a day or two ahead.  Make-ahead recipes are always a winner, especially when it comes to a busy holiday like Thanksgiving! To make this recipe ahead, make the mashed sweet potatoes, layer them in a casserole dish and refrigerate.  Before serving, warm the mashed potatoes by baking them in the oven at 350F for 30 minutes (or just warm them in a microwave to make it even quicker), then top with marshmallows and bake as usual for 20 minutes until the marshmallows are golden brown.  Enjoy!

Sweet Potatoes Casserole With Marshmallows

This sweet potato marshmallow casserole is amazing! Creamy sweet potatoes topped with golden brown marshmallows that are gooey in the middle! Everyone loves this sweet potatoes casserole with marshmallows on top! This recipe is a MUST for Thanksgiving!

Ingredients

  • 5 sweet potatoes
  • 1 package 10 oz mini marshmallows
  • 1 stick 8 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350F. Grease a non-stick 9x13 baking dish.
  • Peel the sweet potatoes and cut into chunks. Put them in a large pot with water, bring to boil and boil until tender when pierced with a fork (about 10 minutes). Drain the sweet potatoes.
  • Put cooked sweet potatoes, butter, maple syrup, cinnamon and salt in a bowl and mash with a potato masher until everything is combined and smooth.
  • Put the sweet potato mixture in the baking dish and level the top with a back of a spoon.
  • Put a layer of mini marshmallows on top.
  • Put the sweet potato casserole in the oven and bake for 20 minutes.

Notes

If making ahead, put the mashed sweet potato mixture (without marshmallows) in a baking dish and refrigerate. Before serving, put the sweet potato dish in the oven for 30 minutes so they are warmed through, then top with marshmallows and return to oven for 20 minutes or until the marshmallows are toasted.

    The marshmallow goes to well with sweet potatoes. There is no need to add extra sugar. Cinnamon and sweet potato are enough to create a natural sweet.
