Put the carrots and water together in a microwave safe bowl. Then cover the bowl with a microwave safe plate or lid. You can also use plastic wrap if you prefer.
Cook the carrots in the microwave on high power for 9 minutes. Another way to cook them is by boiling them in water on the stovetop. When done they should be very tender and easy to mash. Then drain the water from the bowl.
Add the butter cut into pieces to the hot cooked carrots. Then mash the carrots together with the butter using a potato masher or fork.
Add the ground cinnamon and maple syrup. Then mash it into the carrots.
