Start by boiling water in a large pot. Check the cooking time on the pasta package, as the instructions can be different with various brands.
Add a pinch of salt and then your spaghetti. If the noodles are too long for the pot, gently push them into the water with a spatula. As the bottom of the noodles soften in the boiling water, they will fold under the surface.
Heat spaghetti in boiling water for about 11 minutes. Turn off the heat and drain the water.
Turn on high heat for the skillet. Pour in olive oil and add garlic.
Once the oil starts sizzling, cook the garlic for 30 seconds, stirring it constantly. Then reduce the heat to medium so the garlic doesn't burn.
Add the drained spaghetti to the skillet. Use tongs to toss the spaghetti with the garlic-infused olive oil. Sprinkle in pepper and toss again. Keep mixing for about a minute, then turn off the heat.
Move the spaghetti to a serving bowl or plate. Be sure to move the skillet off the heat so any remaining pasta or garlic olive oil doesn't burn.
